In a press statement issued on Thursday, Mian Abbas Ahmed endorsed the decision of Pakistan Bar Council and said it would be difficult for the PBC to give a blank power to the University for affiliating Law College anywhere in the country.
He noted that there was no provision in the Ordinance to empower an affiliation committee to grant affiliation and said Syndicate was empowered to do so.
He said that it might consider the possibility of recognising the University for imparting legal education if that is contained to its Law Department at Karachi.
He expressed concern that despite the decision of PBC duly communicated to the Wafaqi Urdu University and the Al-Mizan Law College, Rawalpindi, the Al-Mizan Law College was continuing giving admission to new law classes LLB (Part-I) as per its advertisements appeared in the press on September 11, 2005.
He also observed that it has not been properly apprised about the points as to when the Al-Mizan Law College was established and started functioning; whether the conditions imposed by the Federal Urdu University while giving it provisional recognition had been fulfilled.
It was further observed that it would be better if the Al-Mizan Law College may get affiliation with the University of Punjab within whose territorial jurisdiction it falls.
